The Cheesecake Factory

In the 1940s, Evelyn Overton found a recipe in her local Detroit newspaper that inspired her “Original” cheesecake. Everyone loved her recipe so much she decided to open a small bakery, but eventually gave it up to focus on raising her children, David and Renee. She moved her baking equipment to her basement kitchen and continued to sell cakes to some of the best restaurants in town. In 1972, Evelyn and her husband Oscar moved to Los Angeles to try one last time to have their own business. With the last of their savings, they opened The Cheesecake Factory Bakery and began selling Evelyn’s cheesecakes to restaurants throughout L.A. Their son David decided to open a restaurant in Beverly Hills in 1978 to showcase his mother’s cakes. Somehow, he just knew that a restaurant with an extensive dessert menu would be a hit. Wood Family Vineyards

Sparks flew in Yosemite during the spring of 1984. Michael’s eyes captured Rhonda’s across a crowded room at the Lodge. Over glasses of wine, conversations were shared, addresses exchanged, and a relationship ensued. Their first home in Fremont overlooked Weibel Vineyards where they dreamed of one day owning their own vineyard. At their second home, also in Fremont, they planted 18 vines. Before these vines reached maturity, they discovered Crane Ridge Vineyards in Livermore Valley. They purchased property with 8037 vines and built their dream home. Wood Family Vineyards winery shortly followed. Rhonda took a leave from her career as an airline pilot to handle the winemaking. Michael, a CFO, helps out where he can and enjoys the fruit of their labor, especially the award winning Chardonnay, his favorite. The winery operations have been moved to their current location and the tasting room opened in June 2017. Their oldest son, Harrison, has taken on the role of Executive VP. They have a strong commitment to each other and to the celebration of life, family and friends. This same commitment carries over into making luscious handcrafted wines. In 1922, Giovanni and Virginia Biale left the town of Savona in Genoa, Italy with their three young sons, Giacomo, Mario and Rudolfo to make a new life in America. With help from a cousin, they made their way to San Francisco and settled in the Italian section of Potrero Hill. Less than a year later, my grandfather, Giovanni, opened “Biale’s Meat Market” on Connecticut Street. To this day “Biale” is still tiled in the entryway of the building. Giacomo “Jack”, my uncle, stayed in the butcher business while Mario, my father, and Rudy went into the bar and restaurant business in San Francisco, Phoenix and Honolulu. Rudy owned and operated two “Rudy’s Italian Restaurants” in Waikiki for 25 years. I worked at Rudy’s for 3 years with my brother Anthony. Fenestra Winery

Fenestra Winery was established by the Replogle family on the historic Ruby Hill property in Pleasanton in 1976 and in 1980 occupied the century-old George True Winery building on Vallecitos Road in Livermore. The old building had been badly neglected, and the Replogles hauled away tons of trash, and installed a new roof and strengthened the building. The winery building was refurbished in 1997 and vineyards have been planted around the winery. The winery specializes in classically balanced, award-winning wines from primarily Livermore Valley grapes.
