Home Consignment Center remains a two family owned and run business. In the spring of 1994 Christine and Johnny Crowell were considering opening a furniture store patterned on Johnny’s successful antique auto consignment business. Jamece and John Fondnazio joined them forming a partnership that has lasted for twenty plus years. The partners had a business plan that promoted high quality furniture and accessories priced to sell from the outset. The partners rejected the traditional consignment approach of initial overpricing coupled with automatic markdowns. Home Consignment Center was built on the concept of great stuff at great prices, and it’s a fun place to shop. That first year was exciting, if exhausting. The partners worked every day and without employees. This allowed them to learn every aspect of the business, first hand. When the first employees were hired HCC initiated its policy of no commission salespeople. HCC shares it’s profits with its employees, monthly, through a store bonus system that recognizes that there are many components to success. HCC has been lucky in having great employees many of who treat the stores as if they were their own business. Based on the great support from the community surrounding the first store in Danville, HCC has continued to grow, adding 14 additional locations in California and Texas. Darcie Kent Vineyards

Darcie’s great, great grandfather, Fritz R. Ruegsegger, came to America with his family from Switzerland in 1875 to pursue a career in winemaking. In 1883, Fritz’s son and Darcie’s great grandfather, Christian Ruegsegger started his own winery, the Alpine Winery, in St. Joseph, Missouri, which held bond #62 in the United States. Along with managing the vineyards and all winemaking tasks, Christian hand painted his own wine labels. The Alpine Winery bottled its last wine in 1945, when hard times following the repeal of Prohibition forced the family to shut down operations. Darcie Kent now proudly carries on the family tradition as a fifth generation vintner and artist for the winery that bears her name, Darcie Kent Vineyards. Like her great grandfather before her, Darcie uses her original art for her wine labels and strives to capture the unique spirit of each vineyard and its owner, in her breathtakingly beautiful labels that grace each bottle. The Cheesecake Factory

In the 1940s, Evelyn Overton found a recipe in her local Detroit newspaper that inspired her “Original” cheesecake. Everyone loved her recipe so much she decided to open a small bakery, but eventually gave it up to focus on raising her children, David and Renee. She moved her baking equipment to her basement kitchen and continued to sell cakes to some of the best restaurants in town. In 1972, Evelyn and her husband Oscar moved to Los Angeles to try one last time to have their own business. With the last of their savings, they opened The Cheesecake Factory Bakery and began selling Evelyn’s cheesecakes to restaurants throughout L.A. Their son David decided to open a restaurant in Beverly Hills in 1978 to showcase his mother’s cakes. Somehow, he just knew that a restaurant with an extensive dessert menu would be a hit.
