We also prepare academically for Kindergarten, particularly in our 4 – 5 year old classes, which is when we consider the children are ready, developmentally. We introduce a writing program (Handwriting Without Tears, about 10 minutes a day), a pre-reading program (Zoophonics), and a more formal social and emotional curriculum (Second Step). Even in the 4 – 5 year old classes we leave plenty of time for free play, both inside and outside class, so children can continue to develop their play skills and creativity before they settle into the more academic culture of elementary school and beyond. Opportunities are provided daily to develop large and fine motor skills, music awareness and artistic expression, and math and science activities in a developmentally appropriate atmosphere. Our program also includes a spiritual element. We welcome children of all faith to St. Clare’s so we keep a light touch on this part of our program. We talk to the children about God loving us all, about prayer for those we love, we tell some simple bible stories and sing a song and do a dance. This all takes place on Wednesday morning (for about 20 minutes) in our Church which is right alongside the Preschool. We take the children into the Church because we want them to learn that we behave differently in a holy place, than we do in class or on the playground. THE WALNUT CREEK PICKLEBALL CLUB
Pickleball for All The Walnut Creek Pickleball Club was created to share this great sport with people of all ages and skill levels. Join us for round robins and barbecues, or just come out and play at our courts at Rudgear Park in Walnut Creek. We hope to see you on the courts! WC Pickleball Club and the City of Walnut Creek Our club has been steadily growing with a membership of over 700 members in 2022. In 2015, in partnership with the City of Walnut Creek our club raised $10,000 to put in four dedicated pickleball courts. In September 2018, we were able to raise $18,000 and added four more dedicated courts. Since 2016 our club has worked with the City of Walnut Creek by participating in Community Service Day where picnic tables have been added, new tan bark laid down and debris cleaned away from the courts and fences. In 2020 and the years following when Community Service Day was not possible due to Covid 19 our club also participated in the Community Food Drive which received 39,000 pounds of food donations for the Contra Costa Food Bank. Our club is proud to contribute to the beautification of the pickleball courts at Rudgear Park. Darcie’s great, great grandfather, Fritz R. Ruegsegger, came to America with his family from Switzerland in 1875 to pursue a career in winemaking. In 1883, Fritz’s son and Darcie’s great grandfather, Christian Ruegsegger started his own winery, the Alpine Winery, in St. Joseph, Missouri, which held bond #62 in the United States. Along with managing the vineyards and all winemaking tasks, Christian hand painted his own wine labels. The Alpine Winery bottled its last wine in 1945, when hard times following the repeal of Prohibition forced the family to shut down operations. Darcie Kent now proudly carries on the family tradition as a fifth generation vintner and artist for the winery that bears her name, Darcie Kent Vineyards. My father Edgar Plascencia has always been one to throw ingredients in and vioala you have your meal, my mother Margarita Quintero has her specialties, from carnes en su jugo, to tortas ahogadas. We strated off making 10 plates a day to go and try to sell to different companies, my father worked two jobs while my mother worked part time and then slowly it turned into her attempting a sale in her food. Now the funny thing is that our intentions was never to open a restaurant, it was always to just have whats necessary for our family and thats it. Eventually we went to the city and we were informed that we needed a commercial kitchen in order to be able to sell food, so with that news we started searching for a small kitchen only to be able to make the 10 plates. So one day, we were driving home and my mother being the curious and impulsive person she is, decided to stop by this little place and ask if the hall kitchen was available, we got the blessing to speak with the beautiful Abby Devoto, she was amazing about everything and she let us know that, that kitchen wasn’t but that there was indeed another kitchen in what use to be the golf course cafe, available. Little by little it started to grow and eventually Abby had the idea of a restaurant, to my parents it was crazy but then she told the HOA and gave them the idea and such, my parents finally gave in and said “lets do it”. So our small family business began and we started off so small, we’d even have time to nap, but little by little it began to grow more and more and now we are where we are, all of this thanks to God, my parents, Abby and Mike Devoto and our amazing customers who have been there from the beginning trusting that we make a good meal coming from that small kitchen,we always will and have tried to give the best of us for your satisfaction, I can honestly say, I Naxly Plascencia am the proud daughter of two amazing people who I was blessed to be given as parents.
