Darcie’s great, great grandfather, Fritz R. Ruegsegger, came to America with his family from Switzerland in 1875 to pursue a career in winemaking. In 1883, Fritz’s son and Darcie’s great grandfather, Christian Ruegsegger started his own winery, the Alpine Winery, in St. Joseph, Missouri, which held bond #62 in the United States. In the 1940s, Evelyn Overton found a recipe in her local Detroit newspaper that inspired her “Original” cheesecake. Everyone loved her recipe so much she decided to open a small bakery, but eventually gave it up to focus on raising her children, David and Renee. In 1972, Evelyn and her husband Oscar moved to Los Angeles to try one last time to have their own business. Dr. David Nisenboym graduated from the University of California, Davis with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with an emphasis in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior and a minor in Russian language. He then attained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from San Francisco’s University of the Pacific Dental School in 2013. After completing dental school, he completed a dental residency with the Pascua Yaqui tribe of Arizona.
